A summary of the different types of people available in the platform.
A "person" can have many different roles in the platform, and their role may change from project to project. In order to manage any project it is important to understand what types of people exist, and how they may be used. Here is a brief summary of the different types of people available in the platform:
Administrator
An "administrator" has full access to everything within your account. They can do everything needed to manage the account and the projects within it.
You will automatically become an administrator when you create a Qualzy account. To learn more about this check out our article on setting up an account here.
You must be an administrator to:
- Edit account settings
- Add & edit administrators
- Create projects
- Import participants
- Access all of the accounts projects
- Access the accounts invoices and billing details
Once an administrator has activated their account, they can begin to have a nosey around and update account settings where needed. Below are a few articles to help get administrators started:

Moderator
A "Moderator" will have access to the project they are assigned to. All moderators will have access to the live project and be able to interact with participants, probing their answers where needed.
In a live discussion, moderators will also be able to filter posts based on participant tags, and post moderator posts to ask further questions to all of the participants.
To find out more about being a moderator in a live discussion, check out our moderator guide here.
In live chats, moderators will have full control of the chat and be able to interact with participants and move them through the activities.
To find out more about live chats, and moderator capabilities check out our live chat guide here.
To access analysis and other areas of the platform the administrator who created the project will need to give moderators access to moderator tools.
* If you are a moderator of a project and do not have access to moderator tools, you will need to get in contact with the person who created the project so they can enable them for you.
You must have access to moderator tools to be able to:
- Access analysis in order to export transcripts, download media and carry out any further analysis using our suite of analysis tools.
- Access the people browse in order to edit participants details, manually add any replacements and get an overview of participant engagement.
- Send out Emails and SMS to participants.
- Access the engagement dashboard to monitor participant engagement.

Observer
An "Observer" is someone who can observe a project and its content. Observers will not have the same access level as Moderators and will not be able to interact with participants. They will have access to the live discussion and can be given access to the people browse in order to manage participants.
NOTE: If your project is a pre-task/homework task any non-participant person you add to the project will only have observer capabilities, which means they can not interact with participants and non-administrator observers will not have access to analysis.
To learn more about observer capabilities you can read our observer guide here.
In discussion, observers will be able to interact with moderators, you can learn more about this by checking out the article below:
-
- As an Observer, how can I interact with moderators within a live discussion?
Participant
A "participant" is a pre-recruited or screened individual who has agreed to take part in the project, documenting their experiences and views with a brand, product, service, event, or similar.
Participants will access the platform via a unique link that will be sent to them via email, from their link they will be able to access their activities on most devices including laptop/desktop, mobile phone and tablet.
They will not need to download an app in order to access the platform, which makes it more accessible and allows more participants to take part.
To add a participant to a project, it is mandatory they have a unique email address so they can be sent their invitation email which will contain their link, and also receive notifications from the platform about when new tasks are available or a moderator has left a comment on their post that they need to respond to.
Participant Name is the only other thing apart from Email address that is mandatory. We understand that there is often a need for anonymity, but it is recommended that real names are used and the discussion settings are used to create the anonymity.
You can learn more about importing participants into the project by checking out the articles below:
Tags are a great way to add extra information to a participant which can be used when analysing a discussion. To learn more about tags and how they can be created check out these articles:
